It is pretty much known by many that Seige will be available on the next generation of consoles because it was confirmed by both Sony and Microsoft that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will support PS4 and Xbox One games, respectively. What’s more, is that Xbox Series X users will be able to play Xbox 360 as well as original Xbox games. On the other hand, Sony hasn’t clarified on backward compatibility beyond PS4 games. Both of the consoles will be releasing on Holiday 2020.

Before it’s release we will most likely be getting more information on that. As for the Seige, players rejoice as you will be able to play Rainbow Six Siege on these systems. During this interview, Athanassoff talked about crossplay. He told in that interview that there will be cross-generation multiplayer support, which means it will connect the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and lastly Xbox Series X communities. He also said that they are working with Sony and Microsoft to allow cross-platform play between PS4 and Xbox One, but the decision will come down to the two companies. He said, “This is more a discussion between Microsoft and Sony. We would love to be fully cross-play–have Xbox players matchmaking against the PlayStation players. We are ready to support that. And hopefully, this will happen because as I said, it’s a general move in the industry, and there is nothing that can prevent that. It’s just a matter of time before it happens.” Athanassoff also said, there won’t be cross-play between console and PC unfortunately. The reason behind it being the advantage that PC players would have with keyboard and mouse controls. But if they do add it in the game, it would be an opt-in feature. The future of Rainbow Six Siege is looking very bright and the developers have done an amazing job with this game. Furthermore, the devs are playing to creating 100 more operators over the next decade. Well, I wish them the best of luck for the future.
